The Japanese Business Secret that Changed my Life
By Jason Waldron - Wally the Web Guy
I was sitting in my car driving down to Denver, enjoying the
beautiful snow and blue sky after a nice Colorado snow, thinking
about the seasons and the cycles that happen on an annual basis,
and how it can apply to our businesses.
In Japan, the concept of Kaizen is a driving force in business
philosophy.
Kaizen, when interpreted in English, means "Continuous
improvement".
In the West, it is often tempting to think of things in a linear
manner -- Something is broken, now it has been fixed, therefore
my job is done.
In the East, it is more ingrained into people's minds to come
from a cyclical perspective -- It is fixed, now I will improve
it, now I will improve it some more.
The difference between our ways of thinking are both in our
perspectives, and in our results.
Notice that Motorola, a Japanese company, is and was the leader,
in creating quality to a six sigma measurement.
Notice that year in and year out, Toyota's are the best selling
cars and also the highest quality, longest lasting cars.
Is this a coincidence? I don't think so.
As long as I've been in business, I've been comitted to the idea of
continuous improvement.
When I work with a client, I hope to see him or her not once,
but to see them many times. By getting to know each other, we become
close. And by being close, we align our goals.
Together, we can create an upward spiral of larger profits,
improvement on your bottom line, and less work for more reward.
Now that's what I call CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT!
